Je vindt grote campings met alle voorzieningen, rustige plekken midden in de natuur en kampeerterreinen in de hooglanden die je alleen met een 4x4 bereikt. Kies gewoon de regio's die op je route liggen.

Camping Skaftafell: basiskamp bij de gletsjer

Kamperen aan de voet van de gletsjer, midden in Nationaal Park Vatnajökull.
Skaftafell is een van de beste campings in IJsland als je wilt wandelen en van het landschap wilt genieten.
Je overnacht vlak onder de gletsjers, tussen berkenbossen en bergen, en verschillende wandelpaden beginnen bijna bij de schuifdeur van je camper.
Daarmee is Skaftafell een ideale uitvalsbasis voor de gletsjerlagune Jökulsárlón, Diamond Beach en de waterval Svartifoss.
De camping is zo ingericht dat je er makkelijk een paar nachten blijft. Precies goed als je liever minder rijdt en meer tijd op de paden doorbrengt.

en hetzelfde wandelpad voelt op de tweede dag vaak als een heel nieuwe plek.
Camping Vík: tussenstop aan de zuidkust

Handige overnachtingsplek tussen Reykjavík en Skaftafell.
De camping ligt midden in het dorp, dicht bij winkels, een tankstation en cafés.
Daardoor is het een heel praktische stop aan de Ringweg: het zwarte strand Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey en andere uitzichtpunten aan de kust liggen vlakbij.
Veel camperreizigers gebruiken Vík een of twee nachten als flexibele uitvalsbasis voor dit hele stuk zuidkust.
Door de ligging pas je je plannen makkelijk aan het weer aan: je beslist elke ochtend opnieuw of je naar het oosten of naar het westen gaat.

Camping Þakgil: verscholen in een kloof
Verborgen dal
Groene kloof, ver van de hoofdweg.
Þakgil voelt afgelegen en beschut. Steile, met mos begroeide rotswanden omringen de camping, en de onverharde toegangsweg houdt het verkeer beperkt.
Wil je een nacht zonder dorpen, tankstations en touringcars om je heen, dan zit je hier goed.
Een kleine eetruimte in een grot zorgt voor sfeer en maakt regenachtige avonden juist gezellig.
Veel camperreizigers noemen Þakgil een van de bijzonderste campings van IJsland, omdat het dal aanvoelt als een kleine wereld op zich.

Camping Skógar: de waterval voor de deur

Overnachten naast Skógafoss, een van de bekendste watervallen van IJsland.
Camping Skógar ligt op een paar minuten lopen van Skógafoss. Zo kun je de waterval 's avonds of vroeg in de ochtend bezoeken,
als de drukte afneemt en het licht mooier is voor foto's. 's Nachts hoor je vanuit je camper het gestage geruis van het water,
en dan weet je precies waar je bent.
Skógar past goed als je een korte rijdag wilt combineren met een lange wandeling over het pad dat naast de waterval omhoogloopt.

Reykjavík Eco Campsite: je uitvalsbasis in de hoofdstad

Moderne camping met goede voorzieningen, dicht bij het centrum.
De Reykjavík Eco Campsite is de eerste keus als je aan het begin of eind van je reis alle voorzieningen bij de hand wilt hebben.
Hij ligt vlak bij de binnenstad, maar voelt als een echte camping en niet als een parkeerplaats.
Je loopt de stad in of neemt even de bus, en terug op de camping wachten warme douches en gedeelde keukens.
Het is dan ook de ideale eerste stop nadat je je camper hebt opgehaald, en een handige plek voor de laatste nacht voor je terugvlucht.

Camping Skjól: tussenstop aan de Golden Circle
Golden Circle
Gemoedelijke stop tussen Geysir en Gullfoss.
Skjól is een ontspannen camping met restaurant en bar, tussen het geothermische gebied van Geysir en de waterval Gullfoss.
De ligging past bij iedereen die de Golden Circle op zijn gemak wil beleven, in plaats van hem in één dag vanuit Reykjavík af te vinken.
In het hoogseizoen kan het 's avonds levendig worden.

Camping Laugarvatn: kamperen bij de warme bronnen

Laugarvatn ligt aan een meer dat door de aardwarmte wordt opgewarmd, met een spa en warme baden op een paar minuten lopen van de camping.
Ideaal als je de dag in natuurlijk warm water wilt afsluiten zonder nog achter het stuur te kruipen.

Camping Hamrar, Akureyri: in het bos aan de rand van de stad

De kloof van Ásbyrgi is enorm, en het berkenbos en de rotswanden rond de camping houden de wind tegen.

Camping Flókalundur: stop aan de baai
Uitzicht op de fjord

Flókalundur kijkt uit over een brede baai en ligt op een paar minuten lopen van Hellulaug, een klein natuurlijk bad vlak aan het water.
Een fijne adempauze tussen lange rijdagen over de bochtige wegen van de Westfjorden.

Campings in de hooglanden (alleen met een 4x4)
Wegen door de hooglanden herken je in IJsland aan de F voor het wegnummer. Bij ons mag je ze alleen met een 4x4 rijden, maar dan wel elke route die officieel open is.
Veel routes zijn onverhard, hebben steile stukken en rivieren zonder brug, en ze zijn meestal alleen open van eind juni tot begin of half september.

Camping Landmannalaugar: basiskamp in de hooglanden

Landmannalaugar is een van de bekendste bestemmingen in de hooglanden en voor velen het hoogtepunt van hun camperreis.
De voorzieningen zijn eenvoudig, het landschap is des te indrukwekkender.

Kamperen in IJsland: kosten, regels en winter
Wat een camping in IJsland kost
Reken op zo'n 2.000 tot 3.000 ISK per volwassene per nacht (ongeveer € 15 tot € 22), afhankelijk van de camping. Daar komt de landelijke overnachtingsbelasting van 400 ISK per camper per nacht bij. Douchen kost soms extra. Een stroomaansluiting, waarvoor sommige campings apart rekenen, heb je met onze campers niet nodig. Kinderen overnachten vaak gratis of goedkoper. Met z'n tweeën ben je dus meestal 4.000 tot 6.000 ISK per nacht kwijt (zo'n € 29 tot € 44), plus de belasting. Camping Card IJsland: wanneer je ermee bespaart
De Camping Card (Útilegukortið) kost rond de 26.000 ISK (zo'n € 190). Je koopt één kaart per camper, en die dekt de kampeerkosten van maximaal 2 volwassenen en 4 kinderen onder de 16 die samen in die camper reizen. Je kampeert er in totaal maximaal 28 nachten mee, en hooguit 4 nachten achter elkaar op dezelfde camping. De kaart is geldig tot 15 september op zo'n 40 aangesloten campings, maar op geen enkele in de hooglanden. De overnachtingsbelasting van 400 ISK per nacht zit er niet bij in, en douchen kan extra kosten.
Een rekensommetje: met z'n tweeën betaal je zonder kaart 4.000 tot 6.000 ISK per nacht, dus op aangesloten campings heb je de kaart na 5 tot 7 nachten terugverdiend. Alleen eindigt niet elke etappe bij een aangesloten camping, en daarom loont de kaart vooral bij zomerreizen van zo'n 10 nachten of langer. De actuele prijs vind je op utilegukortid.is.
Wildkamperen in IJsland: niet toegestaan

Een camping voor elke nacht, al voor vertrek gepland
