Det gør den til et meget praktisk stop på Ringvejen, hvorfra du hurtigt er ved den sorte strand Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey og flere udsigtspunkter langs kysten.

Þakgil virker afsides og beskyttet. Stejle, mosbevoksede klippevægge omgiver pladsen, og grusvejen derhen holder trafikken nede.
Perfekt til en nat langt fra landsbyer, tankstationer og turistbusser.
Et lille spiserum i en hule giver stemning og gør regnfulde aftener rigtig hyggelige.
Mange autocamperrejsende regner Þakgil blandt Islands mest usædvanlige campingpladser, fordi dalen føles som en lille verden for sig.

Reykjavík Eco Campsite er førstevalget, hvis du har brug for fuld service i begyndelsen eller slutningen af turen.
Selvom den ligger tæt på centrum, føles den som en rigtig campingplads og ikke som en parkeringsplads.
Ind til byen går du eller tager bussen et kort stykke, og tilbage på pladsen venter varme brusebade og fælleskøkkener.
Det gør pladsen oplagt som første stop, når du har hentet din autocamper, og som en behagelig sidste nat før hjemrejsen.

Mange strækninger er grusveje med stejle stykker og vadesteder, og de er som regel kun åbne fra slutningen af juni til begyndelsen eller midten af september.

Faciliteterne er enkle, men landskabet er så meget desto mere imponerende.

Camping på Island: priser, regler og vinter
Hvad en campingplads på Island koster
Regn med omkring 2.000 til 3.000 ISK pr. voksen pr. nat (ca. 110 til 160 kr.), alt efter pladsen. Dertil kommer den nationale overnatningsafgift på 400 ISK pr. autocamper pr. nat (ca. 20 kr.). Brusebade koster nogle gange ekstra. Strøm på pladsen, som nogle campingpladser tager ekstra for, har du ikke brug for i Premium, Scudo og Fiat Doblo Campervan Automatic, for deres dieselvarmer virker uden tilslutning. Fiat Doblo Classic Comfort har kun elvarme, som kræver strøm på campingpladsen. Børn overnatter ofte gratis eller billigere. Som to voksne ligger du altså som regel på 4.000 til 6.000 ISK pr. nat (ca. 220 til 330 kr.) plus afgiften. Camping Card på Island: det skal du vide
Camping Card (Útilegukortið) koster omkring 26.000 ISK (ca. 1.400 kr.). Du skal bruge ét kort pr. autocamper, og det dækker pladsleje for op til 2 voksne og 4 børn under 16 år, der rejser sammen i den, i alt op til 28 nætter og højst 4 nætter i træk på samme plads. Det gælder til 15. september på omkring 40 partnerpladser, men på ingen i højlandet. Overnatningsafgiften på 400 ISK pr. nat er ikke med, og brusebade kan koste ekstra.
Regnestykket for to voksne viser, at kortet har tjent sig ind efter 5 til 7 nætter på partnerpladser. Men fordi du ikke hver aften ender på en partnerplads, kan det først og fremmest betale sig på sommerture på omkring 10 nætter eller mere. Den aktuelle pris finder du på utilegukortid.is.
Vildcamping på Island: ikke tilladt

En campingplads til hver nat, planlagt før afrejsen
